Communication

I attended a meeting today.  It was very enlightening.  I knew and understood more in one day than I did in all of last year.  Communication is critical.  I am going to strive to communicate clearly and as transparently as possible this year.  A little communication can go a long way to trust and understanding.  Learning what I did today really took away tons of stress and frustration even though it will require more work from me.  I just want to remind myself how powerful communication can be and make it a goal for my team this year.  Just eye opening.

Collaboration and Innovation

I am no writer but I want to try to keep track of what we are trying this year for GT.  Hopefully we will see growth in my writing and a relaxation of style and content. So here goes day 1.

Collaboration: The act of people working together to achieve a common goal.
Innovation according to Webster's Dictionary is the act or process of introducing new ideas, devices or methods.

6th grade GT Team has started their adventurous journey this year into collaboration and innovation that we hope will bring learner passion and interest into something meaningful and authentic for the learner.  Mel, the humanities teacher extraordinaire, has a connection to the here and now with her thirst for knowledge, love for writing, expertise in technology and genuine interest with her students.  Lorice, the heart and soul of teaching, has an unquenchable thirst to grow her learners understanding and love for math as well as the gift of helping each and every student in any way possible. I fill in the science with the drive to help students think for themselves and back up their thinking with research.  This year we are dedicated to the growth mindset, taking risks, and inquiry.  It is not students and teachers, but us as a collective whole of learners that embarks on this journey.

The three of us have been to numerous trainings over the summer in pursuit of our own learning.  (We are always going to
trainings:-)We have met and started drafting our plan.  We have set up a Schoology group with resources.  We have come up with general desired results, a first draft of a learning plan and what each of us will do the first week of school to help us set out on our goal/path.

Mel has a mini lesson on setting goals, and a notecard activity on what kind of person do you want to be? This will get learners thinking about THEIR intrinsic desired results and get to know each other.

Lorice has the steps to help find your goal and focus it into one #word
Me,  I will have a student questionnaire and heart map activity to learn more about perceived strengths, interest and goals.
